The concept for KiddieLane began after an exhaustive search, looking for an opening slot in local dance camps for my daughter. The idea that your child could be denied a rewarding experience due to a parent’s inability to navigate the minefield of roadside signs, web searches that go nowhere, word-of-mouth recommendations that come up empty, out of date child magazine advertisements and calls to establishments only to get no answer or an answering machine, can be a draining exercise. After finally securing a spot for my daughter in a local dance school, I began sharing my frustrations with other parents and they began to share their experiences, with me, only to find similar patterns.
Later in the dance class’s term, the idea began to come together a bit more after watching the manager organizing her business records in a spreadsheet. The last piece of the puzzle came when one of the instructors had a very public and unprofessional argument with the manager about her lack of being paid on time and about the reassignment of her studio with no notification to another instructor. This is when the full idea gelled and I began tapping into my professional skills as a program manager and software analyst to put together requirements for a cloud-based technological solution that not only coordinates the availability and variety of offerings for parents, but also helps resolve the organizational business management problems experienced within the businesses themselves.
